ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Porch across entire facade
and rear with Doric columns and unusual curved
balustrade. Porch extends to form a circular
"gazebo" on the west end of the house. Original
"rustic" porch swing intact. Interior includes
classic revival columns, Craftsman-type ironwork
ceiling fixtures, and Shingle style paneled walls
with mural friezes above.
House is in a clearing in a deep pine woods, reached by a long driveway extending north from Basking Ridge Road. No other houses or buildings are visible from the property. SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
SIGNIFICANCE & HISTORICAL INFORMATION This structure is the outstanding example of transitional shingle style/Craftsman architecture in Morris County. The original quality of architecture, and its near perfect preservation gives this building special importance. The original owners/builders are presently unknown; research of that scope is unavailable for the purposes of this survey.
