across facade, western portion enclosed in
Craftsman-inspired alteration. The original
structure may have been a single room cottage in
the center of the present building. The paneled
door in this portion of the house seems to be 18th
century. Interior modernizations have removed much
evidence of the structure's evolution.
Frame barn used as antique shop, 1 1/2 stories. Larger original barn burned down in 1950's.
SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
Located just south of the village center of Meyersville on Hickory Tavern Road. Newer residential development has occurred south and east of this site. SIGNIFICANCE & HISTORICAL INFORMATION The house appears on the 1868 Atlas of Morris County as the residence of "C. Hoffman." Charles Hoffman was prominent in community affairs in Meyersville in the 19th century, serving as postmaster in his general store, which stood just south of the present Meyersville Inn. In 1887, this house was occupied by L. Block. Architecturally, this appears to be the oldest surviving structure in Meyersville.
